If the favourite turns into a reality it will be interesting to see how the formerly anonymous dubstep creator will react to, or even receive, his award. Maybe he'll send Banksy up to collect on his behalf? Or Dracula, or Jesus?
Burial has been made the clear favourite to win this year's Mercury Music Prize. The event will be held at London's Grovesnor House this evening (9th September) with a range of acts battling it out for what is commonly considered Britain's best album, with the award winner also set to scoop £20,000. The Burial album in question is last year's Untrue, and it currently stands as the top pick with Stan James (5/4), Ladbrokes (8/13), and William Hill (4/7). The closest contender with the bookmakers is Elbow's The Seldom Seen Kid, which clocks in at 2/1 at Stan James and 6/1 with William Hill, with Radiohead's In Rainbows poised in third position with far healthier odds of 5/1 (Stan James), 7/1 (Ladbrokes) and 6/1 (William Hill). Other contenders for the pop bouquets include Estelle, Laura Marling and Neon Neon. The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC 2 tonight, ad can be tracked on-line via the BBC website.
