Having already leaked online, Metallica's new album Death Magnetic has seen a UK release two days ahead of its due date, which was September 12 worldwide.

According to the NME, branches of HMV and Zavvi were selling cds on September 10th and some music industry bigwigs think that James Hetfield and co. might be worried about losing out to Glasvegas, whose debut was out Monday, in the album charts. Their self-titled debut has already sold over 100,000 copies.

Metallica have of course not commented on the early release, but whether or not this tactic - if it is a tactic - will be successful remains to be seen.
