Tapes n' Tapes complete second album
Written by Mark Thompson
Tapes n' TapesWe recently reported that the Minneapolis rockers were hard at work on their sophomore record. Well here's the update - it's finished.

The album, the follow-up to The Loon, is due to land sometime in the spring on XL Recordings. The set was wrapped at New York's Tarbox Road studios with David Fridmann manning the controls.

"It was nice to be able to work with someone who has a real studio," guitarist-singer Josh Grier said. "Having a budget was awesome. It allowed us to have a real studio and get the sounds we wanted. We wanted to make a rock record, but there weren't any over-indulgences. There's no orchestral arrangements or anything."

"One thing we wanted to do this time was get real drum sounds," he continued. "Last time it was recorded in a place that had six-feet ceilings."

The new songs for the album were written on the road as early as January this year. The band have recorded fifteen in total and are now determining which ones will be included in the final set. "Our idea on the last record was to get an accurate representation of the band; on this record, we wanted to sound like the four of us playing the songs," Grier promised.

The band are expected to showcase the new songs at their only date scheduled for 2007 at Minneapolis's Triple Rock Social Club on November 30th.
