Twisted Ear
Vashti Bunyan's early work compiled
Written by Mark Thompson
Vashti BunyanIt's a bit like Peggy Sue Got Married, you release an album years ago and then bow out of the music limelight to do the normal things in life - get married, have kids, etc - and then, just over 30 years later, you're bounced back into the spotlight as Fairy Godmother to the current crop of freak folksters. Mind you, that Devendra Banhart could do with a wash.

Following the success of the re-release of 1970's Just Another Diamond Day and 2005's comeback album Lookaftering, Vashti Bunyan's earlier work before Diamond Day, has been gathered up for release on a two-disc compilation.

Entitled Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind - Early Singles and Demos 1964-1967, it will be released on October 8th through FatCat and will include Train Song, Love Song, Winter Is Blue, Coldest Night of the Year, and I'd Like to Walk Around in Your Mind.

Prior to the album will be the release of a single through FatCat. The Mick Jagger and Keith Richards penned song Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind, originally released in 1965 by Bunyan, will be re-issued on September 10th with full orchestral backing. The song will be familiar with anyone caught the Zero Degrees of Separation tour where it was performed by the singer and backed by Vetiver.

Vashti Bunyan will also appear at two UK festivals this year, firstly at the Green Man Festival in Wales on August 18th, and also at the Connect Festival in Scotland on 1st November.

This sounds really exciting. And if anyone's going to either of those festivals I'd urge you to check her out - she's quite spellbinding live, though she has always seemed very shy/reluctant onstage.
