Written by Mark Thompson
The Beach BoysHells Bells!  The rumour-mill goes postal over the possibility of a Beach Boys reunion performance after three of the original line-up appeared in public for the first time in over a decade.

June 13th saw Mike Love, Al Jardine and Brian Wilson - along with Brian Johnston of the 1965 touring line-up, and Jardine's temporary replacement Dave Marks - get together to celebrate their 2003 compilation, Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of the Beach Boys, passing the double-platinum mark (2 million copies).

The question on everyone's lips was the possiblity of an on-stage reunion.  Wilson replied, "There's a chance of that."  But his cousin, Love, with whom Wilson has endured a fractious relationship, added that, "We've got tough management."

However, the cause for celebration was the album's success, and the band were quick to acknowledge those who helped make it a success.

"I want to thank everybody involved that helped us get that album ... going and going," Wilson said. "And I thank the Beach Boys themselves for being great, great artists to produce. I'd rather produce those guys over any other artists in the whole world."

Love, despite the history of him suing Wilson over royalties, seemed to be enjoying his cousin's company.  At the event, Love toasted Wilson as the creative drive behind the group's success, paying tribute to "his incredible abilities that gave us all an amazing life."

The event also served to announce Capitol Records plans on June 27th to release a deluxe CD version of Good Vibrations, including five different versions of the 1966 hit, coupled with its original U.S. B-side.

Also announced, were the plans for a CD/DVD commemorative reissue of the band's seminal Pet Sounds album to mark its 40th anniversary.  The set is to include mono, stereo and digital Surround Sound mixes of the music, also included in the release will be unreleased documentary footage and unseen promotional material.
