Is anyone else feeling the same in preparation for Mayweather Vs Ricky Hatton?

Honestly, I have not felt these type of shivers up the spine and mixture of nerves, giddyness, thrill-seeking, panicking, brain-wrecking, pulse-racing, out and out pure exhilaration since England played the semis in Euro 96.

It's such a contrats between the fighters. Hatton: bullish, impeccable body work, hunger, down-to-earth, man of the people, unstoppable power, ferocious. And Mayweather: slick, deft, fluid, handspeed, manipiulator, showman, bravado and braggadocio, entourage of hype-men and sycophants, undefeated.

Something's gotta give, and I don't know who that's going to be.

This takes me back to the time when boxing was was one of those 'get the family round the telly' occassions - Benn vs Eubank encounters, Barry McGuigan getting the world title, Lennox Lewis taking the title in America.

Such a pity it's HBO/Sky affair and not one that everyone can enjoy.

Spot on squire - regular people actually care about this bout. Although plenty of great fighters have been on the scene since the Benn/Eubank, this has really captured the imagination (front page of The Sun!).

I'll be listening on 5 live.

I'm of an age now though where it will be an early night and early alarm for the fight...followed by a test match.  Huzzah!
